Terraced Fields in Yuanyang

Rice Terraces in Yuanyang are considered the largest and most picturesque in the world. The fields were
cultivated by humans for centuries and represent a unique self-sustaining ecosystem.
Despite the huge scenic beauty of the landscape, mass tourism has not developed in the region, mainly due to the remote location and lack of near the airport.
Yuanyang County lies at an altitude between 140 and along the Red River to almost 3000 meters above sea level, in the mountains Ailao and is situated about 50 km north of the border with Vietnam.

In 2008, the State Administration of Cultural Heritage of the People's Republic of China has proposed a terraced fields to the list of World Heritage.
